Proofreading

In general, proofreading takes a much lighter approach than copyediting, focusing on correcting errors, rather than in-depth editing.

What does proofreading involve?

  • Checking for errors (in both the layout and the text)
  • Checking the layout/positioning on the page (e.g. checking for bad word breaks over lines, checking the positioning of images)
  • Ensuring consistency in both the text and the layout
  • Ensuring page references are correct

How is proofreading completed?

Typically proofreading takes place on PDF files (i.e. when all elements have been positioned on the page). I will use Adobe Acrobat to add proofreading changes directly to the PDF.

I can also do a proofread on a Word file (i.e. a light edit), but note that this will not involve checking layout/positioning on the page, as things can move around in Word.

Rates

I charge for proofreading using a page rate (€ or £ per page). Contact me to discuss the page rate for your project.
